Privacy
This notice explains what information Planarium collects, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the service as it actually works today, during beta.
Who operates Planarium
Planarium is operated by Zachary Stevens, a sole trader trading as Planarium.
For data-protection purposes, Zachary Stevens trading as Planarium is the controller of personal information processed through this service.
You can contact Planarium about privacy or data-protection matters at support@planarium.co.uk.
Using the calculators without an account
You can use the calculators without signing in. The figures you type into a calculator are processed in your browser to produce a result. They are not sent to or stored on our database unless you sign in and choose to save a scenario.
Account information
If you create an account, our authentication provider stores your email address, a securely hashed password, and account timestamps such as when the account was created, confirmed and last signed in. We also store a profile record containing your account identifier and the display name you choose.
Password reset and email confirmation messages are sent to the email address you provide.
Saved calculator scenarios
When you are signed in and choose to save a scenario, we store the name you give it, which tool it came from, the inputs you entered and the calculated results, linked to your account.
Those inputs can include financial and work-related information such as salary and pensionable pay, pension balances, tax-code and student-loan choices, working patterns, dates of birth or age-related dates, and planned retirement dates. Only save what you are comfortable storing. Saved scenarios are only visible to your own account, enforced by database row-level security.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting and database providers process technical information such as IP address and request details in order to serve pages, secure the service and prevent abuse.
Analytics
Planarium uses Plausible Analytics to understand overall website usage, such as which pages are visited and where visitors arrive from.
Plausible is designed to provide aggregate website statistics without using cookies or persistent identifiers. Planarium does not send calculator inputs, saved-scenario contents, account email addresses or other user-entered financial information to Plausible.
Plausible processes website analytics data on infrastructure in the European Union.
Why we use your information
To provide the calculators, to create and secure your account, to store and show the scenarios you choose to save, to send account emails such as confirmation and password reset, and to keep the service running and secure.
Lawful basis
Where you have an account, we rely on performance of a contract with you: providing the account and the saved-scenario feature you asked for. For keeping the service secure and functioning, we rely on our legitimate interests. Where we ever rely on consent, we will ask for it.
Service providers
Planarium uses Supabase for authentication, database storage and account emails, and a hosting provider to serve the website. These providers process data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data, and there is no functionality or arrangement in the service that shares your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Planarium's primary Supabase project is hosted in the West EU (Ireland) region. If you need confirmation of the current hosting region before sharing sensitive figures, please contact us.
Retention and deletion
Account and saved-scenario data is kept while your account exists and while it is needed to provide the service. There is no automatic deletion schedule in place. You can delete individual saved scenarios yourself in My Workspace, and you can ask us to delete your account and all associated data by emailing support@planarium.co.uk.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you have rights to access your data, have inaccurate data corrected, have data erased in certain circumstances, restrict or object to certain processing, and request portability of data you provided. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address above.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.
Cookies and browser storage
Planarium does not use advertising or analytics cookies. The storage we do use is strictly necessary for the site to work: your browser's local storage holds your sign-in session so you stay signed in, and a small session-storage flag is used once to recover the page if an application file fails to load after an update. Signing out clears the stored session.
Because no non-essential tracking is used, there is no cookie consent banner. If that ever changes, this notice will be updated and consent will be requested where required.
